came
to me in the spring of 2000, at 7 months old, from Daniel Buchwald and
Norra Hansen of Avalon Boxers. At the time of Beau's arrival, we were
stationed in Alaska, so Beau was flown to me, basically sight unseen - other
then a few pictures. I couldn't have been happier, when I picked him up at
the airport, my very own show dog! Beau was pretty much thrust into our
first dog show, just three weeks after his arrival. We bonded quickly and
drove to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory in Canada. We attended 6 shows, in 3
days, and wow!! What a set of shows - for someone that had only attended 2
fun matches and worked as a ring steward at one other show, I was not very
well prepared! We did well enough, winning Best Puppy in Group on one day,
we didn't get any points towards his championship that weekend - due to a
low turn out of Boxers, but I learned so much. That weekend I was taken
under the able wing of Terri Dunning of Alpine Boxers, she showed me some
grooming tricks, and helped with my handling and helped explain the dog
shows a bit better for me. Beau has been both a challenge and a joy to have
in my home. I have learned so much from this boy, and was truly bitten by
the "Dog Show Bug" because of him. He has always been owner handled by me,
both in the breed ring and the Obedience and Rally rings, we are a team and
have a bond that can't be broken. Together we have accomplished more then I
had ever expected, 2 - almost 3 - Breed Championships (missing out on the
Canadian title by 1 point), his first Obedience title, his first Rally
title, his Canine Good Citizenship, and his Temperament title. I couldn't
be more proud of this boy, he has come a long way, from the gangly, long
legged, skinny puppy to the solid, gentleman of today. He has all the
attributes of a great Boxer - Beauty and Brains.
Of course I wouldn't be who I am without
the help of Daniel Buchwald of Avalon
Boxers, for entrusting me with Beau. Candy Bartos of Candance Boxers,
she helped with my handling and gave me a few grooming tricks in between
shows, and loaned me equipment when I was first starting out, as well as a
place to sleep while at the shows. Terri Dunning of Alpine Boxers for the
wonderful sportsmanship lessons, both in and out of the rings and answering
all of my Boxer health questions. And of course the people that helped fuel
my competitive fight show after show, Jean and Roger Hale of Moosewood
Boxers, competing against their "Harry" was a high point each show weekend.
Beau received his AKC and International
Championship titles the summer of 2001 at 18 months old. He took some time
off, and was able to mature and really come into himself, he was shown
limitedly as a Champion, his 2nd time out he received a BOB, and then a
month later at the Montana Circuits, he received a BOS and BOB over some
really incredible and well known Specials, all owner handled. Beau again
took some time off, and sired two litters with my Tara (C-Era Simone), and
then started his career in Obedience and Rally. After competing in 4
trials, Beau received his Companion Dog (CD) title, and then after another 4
trials Beau received his Rally Novice (RN) title. Beau is continuing his
training and will hopefully be competing in the advanced classes.
